Screen Production

At Murdoch, our screen production students learn about script- writing, producing, directing, cinematography, production design, digital video editing, sound recording and sound design. Students gain hands-on experience from international award-winning experienced film-makers and
use a wide range of professional production equipment and industry- standard facilities. These include digital editing suites, 4K industry cameras, a broad cast-quality TV studio, and a state-of-the-art sound stage. Screen production students have the opportunity to work withreal organisations on real projects, and complete internships through our work-integrated learning program. In this way, students learn all the roles involved in creating screen productions of many kinds including drama, documentary, factual production, and or experimental pieces.

Eye to Eye is a drama based on the characters Beth and Jennie.

Two sisters were brought up with the same neglectful father who grieved his absence. Dealing with their abandonment, Jennie goes down the path of drugs whilst Beth is obsessed with control. Will their bond be enough to break the cycle of drugs and abandonment, or will the hidden secrets ruin their relationship?

Fading Colours

Fading Colours is a poignant drama that explores the grief experienced by those transitioning from “significant other” to “primary caregiver when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia.

Based on a true story of grief, adversity and abundance of love, Fading Colours captures the emotional journey of Lillian after her husband, George, mistakes her for his own mother. The film dives into Lillian’s reluctant journey to acceptance, exploring the resilience of their love amidst adversity, and reminds us that joy and connection can be found in the simplest of moments.

 
 

Finding Faith

Finding Faith is a queer short film about a young adult named Grace, who begins to question both her ow desires and identity and how it goes against her religon. In her rural Christian town, Grace finds a 100-year-old diary about a girl named Faith who’s going through similar issues with her own queer identity and its consequences in the religious community. Grace discovers herself in Faith and follows the other girl’s journey, perhaps to find her very own. 

Starring Naomi Ottley as Grace and Lilian Tran as Alice. Finding Faith explores the complexity and deep emotional world of a coming-of-age story through a closeted queer lens. This story aims to inspire and uplift the voices of those who cannot speak for themselves and destigmatise the often sorrowful endings featured in many female queer-based films.

Tidal

32-year-old detective, Shawn, returns home after a late night on duty to discover that his wife, Candice, wants a divorce. His obsession with his job and little time for his family have led to the failure of a marriage. After this sudden event, Shawn struggles to deal with his emotions and journeys through the five stages of grief. While Shawn begin to accept his grief, we uncover that the loss of his wife is not the only reason behind sorrow.
