At Murdoch, our screen production students learn about script-writing, producing, directing, cinematography, production design, digital video editing, sound recording and sound design. THE PHILOSOPHY OF LOVE

The Philosophy of Love is a romantic comedy about a fifteen-year-old philosopher, Val, trying to answer her most recent philosophical question: does love exist? It turns out that all the research in the world can’t answer this question – but perhaps a boy named Joe can.

Val’s family camping trip is going terribly, with two parents who are constantly arguing. When the campground owner’s son, Joe, asks her to go fishing with him she takes the opportunity to escape her family. Joe’s bubbly character cracks Val’s hard shell open, and she asks for his thoughts on her philosophy of love. When the evening arrives, Val decides to stay out all night with Joe – to test if her parents will notice she’s missing, determining once and for all if love exists.

PAPIER-MÂCHÉ

Papier Mâché” is a visually striking and emotionally charged experimental/found footage drama. The film delves into the enigmatic journey of Kai, a perplexed and mysterious teenager who navigates the complexities of their existence while cloaked behind a papier mâché mask.

This mask becomes a metaphor for the emotional barriers we construct and the dualities that shape our lives. Kai’s path unfolds as they immerse themselves in a video assignment for class, using their artistic expression as a vehicle to explore the depths of their emotions. Within Kai’s narrative tapestry, they encounter a series of challenges, from dealing with bullies and the trials of high school life to confronting a fractured family dynamic.

As Kai’s video assignment reaches its culmination, a shocking truth emerges from their creation, shattering perceptions and challenging the status quo. Yet, Kai’s enigmatic demeanour remains unchanged. In a climactic moment of both liberation and tragedy, they unleash a nightmarish act that ripples through the lives of those around them, forever altering the trajectory of their collective journeys.
