MESH Projects
MESH provides a collaborative space for students from across the creative arts and communication disciplines at Murdoch University to showcase their work and develop real consulting experience.
Originally established as a Media Showcase, MESH was a site where the best student work from across the School of Media and Communication at Murdoch University could be displayed.
While firmly keeping its roots as a Media Showcase, MESH is now also a fully functioning
‘student consultancy’ that sees students work collaboratively on projects for real clients.
Student projects typically take place within either the Semester 1 (February – June) or
Semester 2 (August – November) timeframe and will usually be defined by learning
content and assessment within each unit.
This opportunity not only gives organisations access to creative student-led thinking, but
it also provides invaluable experience for Murdoch University students to develop their
knowledge and skills by working on real projects that address the needs of real clients.
This year’s project
The Murdoch University Creative Academy Project

Lecturer in Graphic Design and academic Chair of Design Thinking.
Led by Associate Professor Renae Desai, for the past two years, staff and students have been working on a new concept called the Murdoch University Creative Academy.
Based on the foundations built over decades by past and present staff working across the communication and creative arts disciplines, this initiative provides a platform for sharing our passion for and expertise in the creative industries with the wider University community.
A joint initiative between the Schools of Media and Communication and Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the Creative Academy will deliver extra and co-curricula activities to existing students, professional development for staff, industry engagement opportunities, alumni support programs and primary and secondary school engagement opportunities in its initial phases.
Building on existing vibrant programs in communication, creative media and arts within the two Schools, the Creative Academy will bring together Murdoch creatives, in a shared mission to drive the creative industries into a bright albeit challenging future by developing the next generation of storytellers, strategists, researchers, artists and producers.
The project has been co-designed with students through the MESH Consultancy work integrated learning program, with a particular focus on internal community engagement.

“My work on the launch of the Murdoch University Creative Academy focussed on showcasing the breadth of creative opportunities available at Murdoch University. I produced various content pieces including a podcast script and a written piece designed to inform and engage staff and students, sharing the Academy’s story and purpose and highlighting how Murdoch continues to grow and support new and emerging talent in Western Australia and beyond.”
